JAAF SCHOLARS VISIT GAITA FORES PHOTO EXHIBIT

Earlier today, some JAAF Bago City Scholars visited the photo exhibit honoring the life, works, and legacy of Chef Margarita “Gaita” Araneta Fores. The exhibit titled “Gaita: A Life of Flavors and Legacy,” is hosted at the Balay ni Tan Juan Community Museum in Bago City.

Margarita “Gaita” Fores, a J. Amado Araneta Foundation Trustee who was supportive of the Foundation Scholars, passed away on February 11. She was a celebrated culinary innovator and entrepreneur, credited with promoting Filipino cuisine globally and named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016.

A staunch advocate of slow food and organic farming, Fores was the first chef to believe in and support local organic farming in Negros, long before it became a movement, according to the city’s Tourism Affairs Office. Over 20 years ago, she took a chance on small farmers and brought their produce into her kitchens.
